  • Thank you all for coming today. It has been a beautiful service. Nathan and I always wondered who would be the first to die. They always say a parent never wants to outlive their child; well I’m here to tell you that a lover never wants to outlive their mate. Looking over the crowd I remember so much about the person that he is…was and all of the fun times that we had together. This isn’t what we wanted. I wanted to die with him and him with me. Holding each other in our arms and crying over a glass of wine and watching our favorite movie. (Beat) It wasn’t “our” favorite movie it was my favorite movie and he fell in love with it. Have any of you ever seen the movie “Beaches?” It’s about the span of a friendship. It started with the two of them meeting under the boardwalk and from that moment on they were the best of friends. The first time he watched it with me, as I am blubbering over the death scene like it is the first time I was seeing it, he…was wiping my tears. I loved that about him. I loved that his love for me was so deep that he would sit through a chick flick with tissues in hand because he knew as soon as the song came on I would lose it. The song talked about having that special person with you always…he was that for me and it was never effortful to love him. People laughed at us when we got married under the boardwalk much like the one from the movie. But we thought it was the true story of our love. That we started things off going in different directions, living different lives and then randomly he hit my car. Did you guys not know this story? (Laughs) Oh my God it’s the best story of the beginning of a relationship. He is driving and I’m stopped at a light that he clearly doesn’t see and he slams into the back of my car. I am furious. So I get out of my car and I see him and he sees me and, no, it was not love at first sight he just hit my car. I was pissed.
