In the midst of our bad days sometimes we forget that there are others out there who have it worse. So, this collection focuses on helping people in an effort to see someone else smile. An effortless reality that we should live in more than we do, the act of selfless love. In Mom Needs to Smile our narrator recognizes that on this day mom, who is always doing for others needs someone to do for them, and a smile is on the menu. In Granny Could be a Comedian, there is nothing better than having a Granny, but having one that can make people laugh is a gift to not be ignored. In this poem we go on a ride to witness the awesomeness of a Granny that can truly make em laugh. In Sometimes I… we dive into the things that we do that while little can completely change the positive element in someone’s day. From sharing a seat on the bus with the kid others laugh at to weekend breakfast in bed for mom and dad, the littlest of things we do can make a difference.

  • Mom Needs to Smile

Everyone says it but I don’t see it

Everyone looks at us and I avoid eye contact

“you look just like your mom”
    “it’s the ears”

    “look at those eyes”

“the smile is to die for, you two could be twins”

It was difficult to be me when all I heard was how much I looked like my mom

    She’s what I call a “moms’ mom”

    Like the most beautiful rose

    Red and beautiful

    Plucked from the earth

    Smells like perfection

    Looks like a Picasso

Should it be placed in a vase

    Rest behind my ear

    Gifted to my best friend

    But in a moment

The hand that held the rose now drips blood

Because no matter the beauty of a rose

    Thornes get tricky at times

    Moms do too

    Moms can yell

    They can cry

They can make sure you get your homework done

Make you the best pb & j even remembering to top it with chips

They remember the purple lunch box is the one

With the tricky lock on it…

I always got green- my mom listened

    Made lunch time a game

Lifting the lid was a celebration
